It is getting to be the time of the year where I think through the different races I want to participate in. This year I have done over 18 races, I have my spreadsheet on my other computer so I don’t have an exact count. Yes, you read that right I have a spreadsheet of races. It lists the races I am interested in and the ones I have completed, as well as all the important details about each race – date, place, time, website, cost(s), distances, etc.The big question for me is if I will be doing more half marathons in 2015. I really enjoy running them (or at least after them) and they are an awesome challenge. I do have one scheduled for February, I will be doing the Disney Princess Half Marathon in Disney World! But I cannot decide if I want to do any more. If I do I know that have to decide between doing the Fargo Half again or do I want to do the Maple Grove Half Marathon. Of course those two races are on the same day. I love Fargo, it is an AMAZING race, the crowd is awesome. Also this year it is starting and finishing in the Fargo Dome, how cool would that be? However, it would be really cool to run the Maple Grove Half. It isn’t often that I get to run right here it the city I live. Then the question is are there others I want to do? I am contemplating, another fall half but where I am not sure. Any suggestions?
I had committed to myself that I would always run a race on New Year’s Day, but I am rethinking that. The last two years have been ridiculously cold and I don’t know that I am willing to put myself through that again this year. If I do a race on New Year’s Day, I probably will not be signing up until I can see a weather report for that day. If the weather cooperates I have my eye on one of two races, The Polar Dash or Commitment Day 5K. I have done the Commitment Day 5K for the last two years and it is a very well organized race. However, The Polar Dash is a Team Ortho race and they have great races and awesome swag. So we will see as it gets closer to the day if I will be done a New Year’s race. There are some races that just aren’t a question as to whether or not I will complete them. My favorite race of the year is the Maple Grove Esprit de She but in all reality the Esprit de She race series is one of my favorites. It is not until September, I was registered for it in early November. Last year, I did three of their races – Edina, MN, Chicago, MN, & Maple Grove, MN. I would like to another destination EDS this year, I am just trying to figure out which one that will be and how to fit it into the schedule. The options are Katy, TX in May, Cary, NC in June, Westminster, CO in August, Mesa, AZ in October, and Atlanta, GA in November. I cannot decide, so if any of you have suggestions I would love them.
Another race that isn’t a question is Hot Chocolate 15K, which is another great race. One of the more challenging races I have done, very hilly! And they chocolate stops, think water stop but chocolate. Also, the medal is pretty cool!
I am thinking about cutting back on races this year but we will see. I thought this last year too and then ended up doing more this year. Anyone have race suggestions? I would love to hear them!
