There are only a few hours of 2015 left! So it is only appropriate to do a 2015 year in review!
I can’t even put into word what 2015 was for me! It was by far my best year yet! I discovered so much about myself. I have learned when to push myself, when to step back, and so much more. I realized that I love to push outside my comfort zone, and I am really not living unless I am!
There were so many high moments and a few lows. However, all in all it was an amazing year! So what did I do in 2015?
I ran the Nookachamps Winter Run in Mt. Vernon, Washington. It allowed me to check state five off my list of states I have raced in. It was also one of the coolest courses I have ran, it was a mixture of city streets and trails. If you know much about Washington, it is a beautiful state and the trail running was amazing!
I ran in the Valentine’s Day TC 5K at -25 wind chill (yes, you read that right! Effing cold). Probably not the smartest idea I have ever had.
A week later I flew to sunny and warm Florida to run the Disney Princess Glass Slipper Challenge! What an amazing experience! I enjoyed every minute of it!
It was a quiet month. I ran Everybody’s Irish 5K and really got into the whole theme. It was the first race I dressed up for!
April was a hard month for me. I really struggled with my anxiety. I should have been deep into my Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon training, but I couldn’t bring myself to run. I skipped one of my favorite races, Hot Chocolate 15K because I knew I wasn’t prepared.
What an excited month! It was the first time I really saw myself! May was when I started seeing myself for the way I actually looked and not how I did prior to losing weight. That was a big, huge step for me!
And then there was the Esprit de She Duathlon! Can you say way outside my comfort zone! However, it was so awesome and made me fall in love with endurance sports!
I ran the half marathons of all half marathons (in my opinion)! I ran the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. I was not prepared, I hadn’t run as much as I should have. In the race, I had a pain in my foot I had never had before. Fast forward a week later and I was in a walking boot for a month.
Since I was in a boot most of the month there wasn’t much going on for me. I was supposed to run Red, White, & Boom on July 4th but that didn’t happen. I did go to Seattle for my brothers wedding! They had an amazing day and I was so excited to be part of their day!
Can you say Triathlon! I successful completed the YWCA of Minneapolis Women’s Triathlon. I really don’t have words for this one. I never thought I was capable of completing a triathlon. After getting back to my car, I realized how far I had come over the last few year.
Yet another tough month in regards to my anxiety. However, I really focused on my training and would see how it paid off in October.
Justin and I did go to Las Vegas for a couple days where I did run The Biggest Loser 5K. But even more exciting than that was I jumped off the Stratosphere! Yes, I did and it was so awesome!
The month started out on a high note. I rocked the TC 10 Mile! I, so, exceeding my expectation for this race! I was hoping to finish the race in 2:07:00 and ended up finishing in 2:02:21!
Then a few weeks later Justin and I went to Hawaii! What an amazing trip! I got to relax, run, and spend time with Justin. I could not have been a better vacation!
I finished the month out by rocking the Monster Dash 10 Miler! I had done so well at the TC 10 but walked away knowing that I had a little too much left in the tank. So, I left it all out on the course of the Monster Dash and it payed off. I ended up PRing! I finished in 1:53:36, eight plus minutes faster than TC 10 which was just four week earlier.
I ran the Turkey Trot St. Paul 6K and Run Now Gobble Later Virtual 5K on Thanksgiving day. It was an experience to run two completely separate races on the same day!
After the busy year, I needed a little break! However, I did manage to fit one race in! I ran the Reindeer Run and loved my outfit! I even asked Justin if I could wear it while we went Christmas shopping that day!
- I hired a new running coach that changed my life! Yes, she really did change my life! I can now run a full race (1 mile to 10+ miles) without having to stop because my heart rate is too high. She renewed my love of running.
- I ran 25 races. I got to check four more states off my race list – Washington, Florida, Nevada, & Hawaii. I was also scheduled to run in Massachusetts but that was cancelled due to too much snow and I was also schedule to run Oregon but my trip was cancelled last minute.
- I became an ambassador for so amazing groups and organizations! Esprit de She, Sweat Pink, Girls Gone Sporty, & Fitfluential.
I hope you enjoyed reading my 2105 year in review as much as I enjoyed writing it! What an amazing year! It far exceeded my expectation! I hope that 2016 can be half as amazing as 2015 was!
What is your favorite highlight of your 2015?
