Do you know how it feels when you so excited for something then it happens and when it is over you have that lost feeling? I am sure you know what I’m talking about!! That’s how I’m feeling now that Blogfest has come and gone!
I haven’t wanted to write this post because I don’t want Blogfest to be over! But it is! So I guess I’ll have to relive the amazing time I had at BlogFest with my tribe while recapping it!
BlogFest 2018: Two Amazing Days with My Tribe
Before I get too far in my recap lets make sure everyone knows what BlogFest is! BlogFest is two amazing days where bloggers and influencers come together to learning and networking at the IDEA World Fitness Convention. It is host by FitApproach and IDEA Health & Fitness Association.
I could go on forever about BlogFest and every amazing thing that happened! However, I think for everyone’s sake I will hit the high points! So, here we go!
Like I said in the title, this is my tribe! The people who attend BlogFest are so amazing! It’s a room full of really awesome people who want the same thing – to learn, be active, and meet other amazing people! For me, this is the best part of BlogFest! This year it was another opportunity to meet people I have never met before, meet my “online” friends in person, and connect with some of the awesome people I met last year or through being a Sweat Pink Ambassador.
The Knowledge Gained & Speakers
The second most important part of BlogFest, for me, is the knowledge I gain! There are always really awesome speakers and a ton to take away!
Again, I could go on forever about all information shared and speakers! However, I will hit the high points!
The Perfection Detox – Petra Kolber
This could not have been a more perfect start to BlogFest! I had struggled going into the conference because I was worried about my body not being perfectly fit and being judged for it. But that was so far from the case! Listening to her helped me to realize I needed to let that go! Petra stressed that people do not relate to perfect but in fact connect “in our cracks”. The really interesting part of that, for me, is that I share everything on my blog and social media because I want people to know I am not perfect or pretend to be. Yet, I was worried others would judge me for not being perfect. Let’s just say there was a disconnect that was quickly connected because of what Petra had to say!
How to Make 6 Figures Online While You Sleep – Sadie Nardini
Sadie discussed creating courses which has never been on my radar. However, I realized it should be! I don’t think I will be making six figures anytime soon but I do think I have could add value to peoples lives! Also, I loved that she still puts everything into a notebook! I LOVE people who still use real paper!
Actionable Analytics – Kristine Beatty
Kristine broke down Google Analytics! As many of you know, in my “real” job I am a business analyst so analytics are my jam. So I have dug in pretty deep to GA but I still walked away with something I didn’t know. Also, I have to mention that I love Kristine because she has the same love of spreadsheet that I do!
Make Love to the Camera – Gigi Ashworth
Gigi made me realize I need to do more video! I have always thought that I needed to have a crazy amount of equipment to do it but that’s not the case. As long as, I have a good microphone, natural light, and something to record the video I have everything I need to get started! Also, Gigi is just as funny in person as she is in her videos!!!!
Keynote Speaker – Heidi Powell
So, Heidi was an amazing speaker! I could have listened to her all day! She had such valid insight on life and specifically to us as bloggers and influencers. What I loved about her was she lives what she says. She said, “Never get too big for your people, no matter what.” And she hasn’t! Heidi responds to her followers on social media. She made time to take a picture with each person at BlogFest and while you were taking that picture she talked to you!
The Power of Podcasts – Chantal Brodrick
So if you have never listened to Chantal you should! Her accent is great! I could listen to her read the phone book and I would be entertained. However, on the day of the presentation, she had lost her voice! So we missed out on listening to her. But she had a “translator” who shared the world of podcasting. What I walked away with is that I like being a guest on podcasts and listening to them! There is a lot of work that goes into podcasting so I have a whole new appreciation for them!
Between the ladies of Fit Approach and IDEA Health & Fitness Association, they put together an amazing event! But BlogFest wouldn’t be what it is if it wasn’t for the sponsors! The sponsors not only provide the attendees with amazing swag, they are great resources. I often time end up walking home with just as much knowledge from the sponsors as I do from the speakers!
Also, they are really good at keeping our tummies full! There were great snacks from California Almonds and Be Better! Bell Institute by General Mills and National Dairy Council feed us well on Friday!
Oh, the workouts! There are so many of them! But they are always so much fun! I love that we get the opportunity to try out new and different workouts! This year BlogFest did more than deliver on that!
On Wednesday, Carleeh and Erica organized a SoulCycle ride! Yes, I love to ride my road bike but spinning classes are super outside of my comfort zone! However, I figured I had nothing to lose so I gave it a spin! I knew I would be in a room full of my Sweat Pink sisters and if you are going to try something for the first time they are who you want to be your support system! And am I glad they were! Not because it was bad actually quite the opposite! I am so happy that I got to share my first SoulCycle experience with these amazing ladies!
Fit Bodies, Inc.
So if someone tells you that you are going to workout with coconuts what is the first thought that goes through your head? Mine was an eye roll. But that was a much-misplaced eye roll! Because goodness did I get a workout! Now, my poor partner, Esther, I am sure she got more of a workout because she had to do hers and tell me what to do. I would say that working out with coconuts requires coordination and well, to say I lack coordination is an understatement! The good news is that we had a great laugh and worked up a really good sweat! And created a friendship that is hands down the best thing that came out of BlogFest!
I was super excited and extremely nervous about our Frog Fitness workout! I knew it was going to be a workout and I was positive I would also make a fool of myself. Somehow, I don’t believe I made a fool of myself but I can confirm it was a workout. And it was a fun workout at that! I was able to hold my own the machine!
The Extra Curricular Activities
There are so many things that happen at the IDEA World Conference! There is the expo, there are sessions, there are tours, and so many workouts! Two the highlights for me were the expo and the sessions I attended on Saturday!
IDEA World Expo
So when you walk into the IDEA World Expo all for the first time it is a show stopper! There is so much going on and so many things to see! Now, if you are anything like me, you would have studied the floor plan and memorized who was at the expo and where there were located. But if you are not like me you can wander for hours. And, honestly, even if you are like me you can wander for hours!
Oh, I also got to check out Fitness Genes! I spent some time creating so spit so I could have a DNA test done! Keep an eye out because there is a whole post about my Fitness Genes experience coming!
IDEA World Sessions
Saturday was spent going to IDEA World Sessions. I started the day off with Amanda Vogel‘s session #Fitspiration: Are Our Posts Helping or Hurting? Powered by RYU®. I was looking forward to it because I find Amanda to be a great speaker, she is so engaging! I was also looking forward to it because as a blogger & influencer I spend a lot of time on social media and have some feelings about what my and other influencers post do. #Fitspiration was the best session I took on Saturday! There was so much great information that I walked away with! During the session, I shared my experience with before and after photos on social media and how they make me feel (this is a post for another day!). Let’s just say I surprised myself with the emotion it brought out in me. After sharing I was on the verge of embarrassed for getting so emotional but also proud because I felt like my thoughts needed to be shared. At the end of the session, the presenters hand out Inspiration Awards, I had no idea, and I was one of the lucky recipients because of what I shared!
I had been excited about BlogFest forever! And now it’s over! It will be another year before I am back with my tribe and that makes me sad! But, I guess it also gives me something to look forward to! So, do you want to go to BlogFest now? Will I see you in Anaheim next year for BlogFest? It’s the best time!
