What you can when you can! WYCWYC! I need to keep telling myself this!
Over the last few weeks I have felt overwhelmed, almost to a point of wanting to shut down. I have had so much going on – vacation, work, training, family, etc. But the thing is – everyone does. So why am I letting it get to me?
I think I figured it out this morning. My perfectionism… For as long as I can remember I have been a perfectionist. I know no one is perfect, I really do but for some reason I have always felt that I should do everything perfect. I am not really sure why.
So how does that have me feeling overwhelmed? Because I build up in my mind how many things I have to do that I don’t know where to start. And then I don’t want to start something if it cannot be done 100% the “right” way (perfect!).
On my bus ride into downtown this morning I was trying to figure out how I could be less overwhelmed, what was causing it. I thought about it to the point that it overwhelmed me so I turned on the High Impact Blogging podcast to just zone out. Laura Williams (co-founder ofGirls Gone Sporty) was interviewing Roni Noone and asked Roni if she had a health and fitness motto, Roni responded “WYCWYC, what you can when you can.” And it hit me…
So today I am going to start living the #wycwyc lifestyle! I don’t have to be perfect, I just have to do my best at what I can when I can. I started with my walk from the bus to work. I knew I had time to take the long way so I could get a few more steps/activity, it may be the only activity I can get today due to my schedule but it is more than I would have gotten if I went the direct way (the “long” way is about two miles through the skyways, the direct way is a block outside).
