Somehow, I missed my 4th anniversary of the day I committed to living a healthy lifestyle. In the past years, I have almost celebrated like it was a birthday because in someways it was a birthday for me. I feel like it is the day I started living, really living. So to celebrate my 4th anniversary here is a little recap of where it started and how far I have gone.
If you have been reading my blog since the beginning or read my about me page, you know I have been on quite a journey to get where I am now. In February 2012, while on vacation in Florida I realized just how much I had let myself go. It became very evident on the first day of my vacation. That morning I went to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I was so excited to go there! I was just about ready to call it a day when I decided to ride the Dragon Challenge roller-coaster. When I got on the ride I could barely get the seat to closed, I had a fleeting thought to myself, I am not that big…
That afternoon we went to SeaWorld and had an amazing time. That is until I saw the picture of myself feeding the sting rays. You see, that is the thing about the world we live in, we have the ability to see our pictures instantaneously now. And well, I was shocked at what I saw. I saw a girl who was very large and very unhappy. Unhappy that she was getting her picture taken and unhappy with where she was. I vowed to myself that moment, when I got home my life was going to change. And it did!
Four years later, on my 4th anniversary, I am a completely different person. I am happy, confident, and proud of myself. I am always up for a new challenge and honestly, I feel like I have to be challenging myself because I constantly want to be growing and improving.
Since committing to be a healthier me, I have growing exponentially! I have picked up running, cycling, swimming, boxing, and just a love of being active. All of those activities but probably running the most, have lead to the confidence I have gaining. I know I can succeed at anything I put my mind to. Success may not come right away but I will get there.
I am so proud of the distance I have come. Here are a few of my achievements along the way:
- I have run 50 5K-15K’s
- I have run 2 10 mile races
- I have run 4 half marathons
- I have completed 1 Disney Princess Half Marathon Glass Slipper Challenge
- I have completed 1 duathlon
- I have completed 1 triathlon
- I am a brand ambassador so really amazing organizations
- I have been interviewed for Tips of the Scale
- And so many other things I am forgetting
I have learned a lot along the way and know that I will continue to learn as long as I am open to it. I am so open to it! I cannot wait to see what the rest of my journey has in store for me.
Happy 4th anniversary to my commitment to a healthy lifestyle!
