And I biked! And I walked! And I swam (but I have been able to do that since I got the injury)!
I finally feel like a whole person again. I didn’t realize how much I would hate being on a mandatory hiatus from activity (except the pool)! I have voluntarly done it in the past and I enjoyed it! However, I think it was different this time because I had something I was training for and when I did it in the past it was because I was on a break and I wanted to be lazy.
First think I did when I found out I could start running again was get fitted for running shoes. My doctor believes that running shoes are to over structured and in some cases issues so he suggested I opt for a neutral shoe with inserts. This will allow my foot to strike the ground as it wants to but my arch will still have support. I got fitted for Saucony Triumph‘s and they are amazingly comfortable!
I intended to run on Saturday morning but we decided to play golf with some friends and I knew I would be walking a lot. I was told that I shouldn’t over do it with my foot in the beginning so I opted to run on Sunday.
Sunday morning, Baylee, decided that we should get up at 6:30am. When she gets up that early on a weekend it means she has way to much energy! It was supposed to be a hot one that day so I again I put my run on hold for the greater good, taking Baylee for a walk. She tires easily so I assumed a short walk would be sufficent. Nope not on Sunday, she walked two miles! That is SUPER long for her. However, it was worth in because she spent the rest of the day on the couch napping.
Justin had to leave Sunday morning for a work trip and I had to pack and get ready for out trip to Seattle for my brothers wedding. With the longer walk and having to get to the gym to run, I decided I would get my bike out and go for a ride. Oh how I missed her (by the way it was time she had a name so I have decided it will be Lexi)! It was so amazing getting back on her and riding!
Finally on Monday morning I made it to the gym to take my new, not so beautiful shoes, for a run and let me tell you, it was glorious! I was told I needed to run on a treadmill the first few times so that if I had any pain I could quit immediately. I was to keep my distances short and slowly build up but that I should run daily. I ran for a mile but it was an amazing mile! And I LOVE my new shoes!
I ran my one mile and then headed to the pool to water run for a little bit longer. I want to keep my endurance up and getting and the pool and water running will do that for me. Until I can get my mileage back up I will have to continue to water run, it is boring as hell but if it is going to get be back out there sooner I am all for it!
I am counting the minutes until I can get back on the treadmill and take my new shoes for a run again!
