Wow! The last week has been nuts, where did the time go!
We had a jam packed Labor Day weekend, that was part of the problem (or good part, depending on how you look at it) and then add in work and I guess time flies!
Going into the long weekend I had to make a few changes to my training schedule. I had to navigate the less than desirable weather forecast, 90’s with 100% humidity, and a busy Saturday. Due to that, I ran my long run on Friday and moved a shorter run to Saturday. Friday was supposed to be cooler and I would not be rushed to get it done since we planned on heading to the Minnesota State Fair early on Saturday morning. So, I knocked out seven miles on Friday morning before it got too hot.
Friday evening was a really low key night since I knew I would be getting up early to get my run in before heading to the fair. I was in bed by 9pm, I know I am so wild! However, my alarm went off at 5:15am and I was out the door by 5:30am for my run. The temperature was already 80 degrees and the humidity was horrendous! I was a sweaty mess before I even hit a quarter mile. But I got it done and came home to take Baylee for a walk before I had to get ready to go. I won’t lie, I kept thinking how great my step count would be for the day!
I quickly showered and we were off to the fair! I had been looking forward to the fair since early in the summer! I love the state fair, it is a great excuse to eat! It is one of the few times each year that I allow myself whatever I want!
We started the day by sharing a breakfast Jucy Lucy’s (sausage stuffed with cheese) and a macaroni and cheese cupcake (breadcrumb bottom with mac & cheese topped with Cheez Whiz).
Then we headed over to the giant slide so I could give it a try. However, when we got there it was closed because it had rained and it needed to be dried off. We decided at that point to just wander around. Along the way, Justin got a fried Milky Way which I tried. It was okay.
I had to have corn on the cob so we stopped by the booth to get me some. OMG was it good! I don’t know what they do to the corn but it is some of the best corn there is!
The only thing I didn’t share that day was my Minneapple Pie. It was phenomenal! In fact, I have spent the days since thinking about it! I will have to take a drive out to the diner that carries it daily since it isn’t too far from my house.
After the awesome pie it was time to check if the slide was open. It was!!! There were a tone of people standing around watching people come down but the line itself was short. Before I knew it, we were at the top and waiting to go down. And just as quickly, it was over and we were back at the bottom.
After the slide the only thing left on our list was the local beer exhibit. There were four options to pick from Belgium/Sweet, Dark, Lighter, and another one I can’t remember. I opted for the light beer option. I like trying new beers but these were not exactly the best I have ever had.
As we were having our beers we saw across the street they also had a local wine exhibit. So of course we had to check it out! I opted for the dessert wines. Again, these left a lot to be desired but it was fun to try them!
After all of that it was finally time to head home! I had an awesome time but I was happy to head home. When I got home I fell asleep within minutes of sitting on the couch and didn’t leave that spot until I went to bed at 10pm (we got home at 2pm).
On Sunday, I was up at 7am because I went to bed so early on Saturday night. After a quick meeting of the minds to figure out what our plan for the day was. Justin surprised me by suggesting we head to the Minnesota Harvest apple orchard and Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store!
We headed to the candy store first. Justin and I took turns going in since we brought Baylee with. I went in first, I wasn’t in search of anything specific. I knew Justin was in search of Johnny Apple Treats (Apple Heads, now) so I thought I would see if I could find them to surprise him. Well I had no luck. But I asked and they had them! After getting his candy, I got myself a few versions of SweetTarts and chocolate licorice (my favorite candies).
After Justin made his way through the candy store we headed to the apple orchard. Baylee, loved the apple orchard! We walked up and down the tree rows so she could check everything out. Sadly, I didn’t get any pictures while at the apple orchard…
After getting home that afternoon, I fell asleep again on the couch! And again, I spent most of the evening there. Except, on Sunday I was in bed by 8pm!
I was up early again on Monday so I headed out for my run early. However, for the first part of the run I took Baylee with. Now, she is not exactly the best running partner. She is slow and I am slow but she is even slower, and she can’t make it very far! However, she was exhausted after the run so mission was accomplished! I dropped her off at home and finished off my run.
It was so beautiful out that when I got home I decided to go for a bike ride. We have a park reserve not far from our house, once on a run I got lost in it. So I have always wanted to make it through the whole park. What better way to do that then ride my bike through it! I enjoyed the ride, there were so many people out enjoying the day too! I ended up riding over 10 miles, 8 through the park and 2 to and from.
All in all it was a great weekend! However, I am happy to be back on my normal schedule.
How was your Labor Day weekend?
