A few weeks ago I went on my first Las Vegas vacation! All I can say is that it was an experience!
Who doesn’t like a mostly free vacation? I know I do! I had the opportunity to tag along with Justin to a conference he had so of course I jumped on that. I had always wanted to go to Las Vegas but had made it there yet.
I was so excited to go to Las Vegas! I had known for over a year that Justin had this conference, it gave a lots of time to plan! The first thing I did was find a race in order to check Nevada of my list of 50 states to run in. I found the Biggest Loser RunWalk 5K and signed up immediately! The race was Sunday morning which helped to dictate when we flew out of Minnesota.
On Saturday morning we headed to the airport for our trip. Our flight left at 11:30 am, when we got to the gate we had over an hour to burn before we had to board. There just so happened to be a bar right at the gate, I mean why wouldn’t you have a drink at 10:45 am?
When we landed in Las Vegas we jumped in a cab and headed to our hotel to check in and freshen up so I could head to packet pick up for the Biggest Loser RunWalk 5K. Once we dropped our stuff and freshened up, we were off to Circus Circus for packet pick up.
On Sunday morning I got up nice and early so I could run the Biggest Loser RunWalk 5K. I ran the race and was back at the room before 10 am which gave Justin and I enough time to check out the strip (really just me since he had been there many times) before we had to meet his bosses that evening. We walked around a little bit but is was SO HOT!
While Justin was meeting with his bosses I decided it would be a great time to check out the fountains at the Bellagio. Oh my, that was so cool! I think I stood there for almost 45 minutes. Truthfully, the lights of the Las Vegas strip are amazing!
On Monday we walked through more of the casinos on the strip and had lunch at one of the buffets. Okay, I am not the biggest eater (anymore) but OMG was that buffet amazing!!! I eat my weight plus more that day. After walking around all day and that huge lunch, we decided to call it an early evening.
Tuesday was the big day! We had been planning on going to the Stratosphere so I could do the SkyJump! Yes, you read that right, I was planning on jumping off the Stratosphere. I don’t know why I really wanted to do it but I did. Justin wasn’t super excited for me to do the jump. He was really worried I would get hurt or something would happen to me. However, when I set my mind to something it is pretty hard to change it!
I thought at some point I would get nervous but it never happened. Instead, I got more and more excited!
Doing the SkyJump at the Stratosphere was AMAZING!!! I loved every minute of it!
After the jump we met one of Justin’s bosses and a vendor of his for lunch in the Stratosphere bar. While we were there they suggested that I do the rides at the top of the Stratosphere. I mean, really, how scary could those be after jumping off the the building! Well X-Scream was awful! I hated every minute of it! But I did it!
The only thing left on the itinerary was seeing Fremont Street. When we got there the only thing I was interested in doing was the zip line! There were two options, one where you were in a seated position and another where you were on your stomach. Of course, I choose to do it on my stomach!
After that exciting day, it was another early to bed for me! Also, I had to catch a my flight home early the next morning.
Honestly, I am not in any hurry book my next Las Vegas vacation. It was too hot, too many people, and too much smoke (I was shocked that smoking was allowed in the casinos) for me! However, there were some real highlights I got to spend time away with Justin, check another state of my running list, and really push myself outside my comfort zone with the jump, rides, and zip line! All in all, I would say that was a successful trip!
