I love the new year! Why? Because it is time to start thinking about my goals for 2016.
Why do I enjoy that, you ask. Because, I love goals! They get me all excited and giddy! In fact, I have been looking forward to this post since I finished writing my Final Check In of 2015 Goals post a few days ago. I write goals for my daily life, for my work life, for my fitness life, and every other facet of my life. Did I mention, I love goals!
This year I am taking a slightly different approach to my goals. I am very proud of how I did last year, however, I had a weight goal that I achieved midway through the year but then due to a medication I ended up putting weight back on. So, did I achieve that goal or not? I still don’t know. I struggled with that which is why this year I have made sure that it will be black or white if I achieve the goal.
So, here are my goals for 2016!
Goal 1: Run 850 miles
Pretty straight forward goal. I just picked a random number that I believe is doable based on my training and race schedule.
Goal 2: Ride 1000 mile
Again, very straight forward goal. And again, I picked a random number I believed I can achieve based on my training and race schedule.
Goal 3: Get to 28% body fat
I am still working to losing weight but as time has gone on I have realized that I don’t care for the scale. I much prefer measuring body fat which is why I have started relying on BodPod tests as opposed to the scale. In my most recent test my body fat percentage was 36.2. I think based on that and recommendation from professionals, that is a great number to work towards.
Goal 4: Race Personal Records (PR’s)
I sat down and closely looked at my race schedule for 2016 and based my PR’s on the races, when the the races are, previous PR’s, and my ability in each distance.
- 5K – 33:30 (my fastest 5K to date is 34:17)
- 10K – 1:09:45 (my fastest 10K to date is 1:11:23)
- 15K – 1:46:00 my fastest 15K to date is 1:57:10)
- Half – 2:34:00 (my fastest half to date is 2:46:41)
Goal 5: Commit to a yoga practice
Clarifying detail to this is, in order to successfully meet this goal I need to be practicing yoga on the average of once per week. I know based on my schedule it might be hard to always fit it in but I want to. Here is the thing about yoga, it scares me. That right there is exactly why I want to commit to practicing it. It scares me because I don’t know it well and my perfectionism makes me worried that if I am not perfect then I shouldn’t do it. And there you go, a perfect goal!
Goal 6 (a fun goal): Save $1 for every mile I run in 2016
This one is just for fun, but how fun will it be if I have $850 at the end of 2016! I cannot touch this money until January 1, 2017. I plan on achieving my mileage goal but say I don’t, the money is still going to be nice. Maybe, it can pay for races in 2017! Thank you to Jill from Running With Police Escort for the idea!
I love a goal and a challenge! In fact, my mom recently me that I am at my best when I am challenged so this should be a great year! I am going to do everything I can to achieve my goals for 2016! However, whatever happens I know I will have given my all and done my very best!
Do you have goals for 2016? If so, what are they?
