It’s fair to say 2018 is here! In fact, we are almost a month down in 2018. The start of a new year is often the trigger to new goals and aspirations for individuals. I am no different!
My Goals for 2018
I have spent a lot of time thinking about my goals for 2018. It was really important to me not to rush into my goals this year. Unlike several years in the past, I was really thoughtful about what I want for myself in 2018.
1. BE MORE BALANCED WITH MY FITNESS
WHY: Since 2013 I have been so focused on running. I love running! However, for a long time, I identified myself as a runner and only a runner. I still want to run but also want to embrace other fitness activities. Over the last two years, I have been trying other things and I have really enjoyed it. I have come to love kickboxing and resistance training! I am also starting to really enjoy yoga and want to focus on that more. I know this is going to be good for me physically but also mentally!
HOW: The nice thing about this goal is that we build a home gym is a lot of space and equipment. There is room to do yoga and I have a bag for kickboxing. We also have a treadmill and spin bike. I just found out about FightCamp which is an at home kickboxing classes which you can subscribe to. I have also been using (and loving) and will continue to use Gixo. I love the variety of workouts! I have so many options to achieve this goal!
2. CUT MY BODYFAT PERCENTAGE
WHY: I have been very open about putting on weight since my fall. I am finally in place on my journey to recovery where I can focus on fat loss and muscle gains. Having gained back a large amount of weight has been eye-opening! I have been overweight to fit to overweight again and I realize how hard it is for my body when I am overweight. I don’t want the aches and pain or lack of energy any longer! Ideally, I would like to get my bodyfat down to 33% this year. Ultimately, I would like to get to 28% but I know it is going to take time and I want to be patient with myself.
HOW: See goal 1! I think by getting a better balance of workouts in I will have an easier time achieving this goal. When I was just running I didn’t have the best muscle base. However, when I was only kickboxing and strength training I cut a lot of fat. So if I am more balanced I should have a great chance at 33%!
3. BE MORE MINDFUL
WHY: Over the last three months I have started experiencing full-on panic attacks. I know what my triggers are and if I keep that in the forefront of my mind I can avoid a full-on panic attack. I realized that if I am more mindful in every aspect of my life I feel so much more at peace.
HOW: I have already been working on this but have a long way to go. The first thing I have done is to quit multitasking! I have also been meditating and plan on growing my practice of it. I am really on working on staying present and disconnecting from my phone and social media (it’s really hard when you are a blogger).
4. BLOG AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK
WHY: Because I love it! And because it is really good for my brain. Blogging became very challenging for me after my fall and it still is. However, the more I do it the better I feel and the easier it is for me. Blogging is therapy. As you probably know, I put it all out there and I always feel better after I do!
HOW: I have part of a blogging accountability group that has made a world of difference for me. Each day we focus 30 minutes on our blog. I can’t get a blog post written in that amount of time but it does allow me to get critical blogging tasks done in turn making it easier to sit down and write a post.
Goals really should be measurable and as you can tell from mine only one really is maybe two. The thing about it is that I am always growing and changing and having really specific goals makes me focus on things a little too intently. I am trying to get away from that behavior hence the be more mindful goal!
There are my goals for 2018! I am really excited for this year! I can feel that it is going to be an amazing year. It has been a long time since I truly felt excited for a new year and all the possibilities it brings.
Do you have goals for 2018? What are they? Which one makes you most excited?
