Do you want your butt kicked? If you do, I know the woman for you! You need to find Jess of Sweat with Jess!
Last Friday, I saw that I had been tagged in a post on Facebook by my friend Dena. She looking to see if there were a few of us interested in joining her in her workout on Saturday. Dena has gone through quite a transformation herself, I was very interested in seeing what she was doing. So I said sure, I had nothing better to do.
I was pretty nervous about what I was going to encounter at this workout. I knew it would be intense because Dena has had some amazing changes!
First thing Jess says after I walk in was that since I was wearing my Green Bay Packers tank top I wouldn’t have to do the burpees at the end of the workout. Burpees at the end of the work out, I don’t even do them during the workout! We started with a very easy warm up and then Jess showed us all the different stations.
There were a total of seven stations. We started with pushups using a rings. I was good here, I have a TRX and do them when ever I have it set up.
Then we moved in to planks where we used our feet and legs to jump over a small PVC pipe thingies (I know not my best description).
Next up were box jumps. I have always wanted to do box jumps. I did a few and realized I had a long way to go to get good at them.
And then it becomes a blur… By the time I got the fourth station I was sweating and my heart rate was getting up there. I somehow missed the part about the fact that we had to do each station FOUR times! Yes, FOUR times!
I have said it before and will say it again. I thought I was in good shape! However, this workout made me think twice about that! But you know what, I made it though the whole workout! I did have to modify as we went on and I might have slowed down but I didn’t quit!
Finally, it was the cool down! Yay! Or so I thought… The cool down was brutal (in a good way)! We had to lift a set of weights 15 times in a minute, the faster we did it, the more rest we would get. Then we had to do 5o second wall sits (active recovery). And when we finished, I thought thank goodness it was finally over. Oh, but it wasn’t!
Jess plays this fun little game at the end of the workout. She plays a song and then tells you what to do on specific words of the song. The song she picked for us was “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. I believe we did squats on Thunder and burpees on, well I cannot remember because I didn’t have to do burpees. Sounds like fun right?
Okay, all kidding aside. This was one of the best workouts I have had in a very long time! It was a full body workout that challenged me, something I am always looking for. I also loved how awesome Jess was. She was super supportive but she was also there to make sure you had correct form and were pushing yourself. Everything I am looking for in a trainer!
So would I go back to Sweat with Jess? YES! I need to figure out when I can make it over there since it isn’t close but it is a great cross training session for my running!
A big thanks to Dena and Jess for inviting me to Sweat with Jess! I really enjoyed my time there!
