I stopped using Weight Watchers in May of this year because I just found it wasn’t working for me at the time. Let me start by saying I think it is an amazing program and I would do it again (and I may try it again soon). I stopped Weight Watchers because when I was training for my first half marathon I was more focused on tracking my macronutrients (macros) and not points which is really calories.
That led me to using MyFitnessPal. I also really like MyFitnessPal, it is free and so simple to use. One of the things I really like about it is that it linked to my Fitbit, my Garmin account, my RunKeeper account, and so many other apps. Also, it allows you to set your calorie (or figures them out for you) and/or macro goals. I loved that flexibility because as I have been on this journey I have found that you can eat way more than 1200 calories and lose weight so MyFitnessPal gave me the ability to play around with calories.
On a side note, I eat anywhere from 1500-1600 per day and still lose weight, slowly. And for me that is working because now I am more focused on gaining muscle.
Okay back to the topic at hand! Just recently, I stated following the 21 Day Fix plan and liked that as well. 21 Day Fix was more about eating whole foods and watching portion sizes. There are seven containers, one for veggies, fruit, protein, carbs, healthy fats, seeds, and oil (however seeds and oil are both in the orange container). Then based on your weight, the amount of calories you should be consuming is calculated and changed into how many of each container you get each day. For me, I got four containers of veggies, three containers of fruit, four containers of protein, three containers of carbs, one container of healthy fats, one for seeds, and one for oil.
Now, I am trying to figure out how I want to proceed. I have taken the week off from tracking because every now and again I just need a break. I have realized that if I allow myself that, I tend to stay on track as opposed to just giving up. So, starting next week I will go back to MyFitnessPal but I will do a hybrid of 21 Day Fix as well. I will focus on getting whole foods and limiting the processed foods as well as counting calories. However, I am really thinking about joining Weight Watchers again at the beginning of next year. I love the program and I honestly would love to hit my 100 pound loss through Weight Watchers. Stay tuned because I will be talking about this more.
