I was up 1.2 pounds from the week prior. However, a lot happened in that week so I expected it. Christmas was during the week as well as a lot of time spent in the car. I started Weight Watchers on December 10th, fully knowing that Christmas and New Years were just around the corner. But that is actually why I started when I did. I did not want to put on even more weight and have an extra five pounds to take off.
As we prepared to go back to my parents for Christmas I put together my game plan for the time away because I knew that I would not have as much control not being in my normal routine. We were planning on leaving Tuesday morning but ended up leaving Monday afternoon. I had been great Monday morning and afternoon so I wasn’t worried about the drive to my parents. I packed some snacks for the ride because we knew it would be about eight hours. When we stopped for supper, I had my fiancé stop at Subway for me. I would have loved to join him while he ate Red Pepper (a restaurant local to Grand Forks/Fargo that has a cult following!) and enjoy one of their Tostadas, because they a phenomenal, but I knew that I should be making a wise choice that evening because the next few days would probably be lacking in wise choices.
I had decided before we left for my parents that I would enjoy my time home and not worry too much about points. However, I would make wise choices when possible. My mom is great about having fresh fruit for snacking, healthy choices for lunch, and great options for supper but then she is also good at having naughty snacks as well because she is a great “baker”. She makes the best “Chex” mix and it is my kryptonite, she also make amazing chocolate covered pretzels, not to mention she had Christmas cookies. So, I was going to carefully navigate those while still enjoying somethings here and there.
My mom made a few of my favorite things while I was home and it was great to have them even if I knew that were a little higher in calories than I would have preferred. We had several awesome breakfasts, she make one of the best breakfasts out there. Then we had BBQ ribs which she is also really good at too. For Christmas, we went to my aunts where she had made prime rib, cheesy hashbrowns, and several salads. I LOVE prime rib so I did have one and half pieces but I made sure to remove any piece of fat I could find.
I was really proud of how well I did on the meal, but not so proud of all the sweets I had. I had several frosted sugar cookies (don’t get me started, you can read my rant on that here),Krumkeke, a cupcake, and goodness knows what else. I still believe it was probably worth it but wish I would have thought a little harder about it before putting all that junk in my mouth.
And that is exactly what happened. I was on track from that point until I weighed in on Wednesday. I am really rather happy only having a 1.2 gain, it could have been so much worse had I not followed the program the other days! We will see how my weigh in goes next week with New Year’s Eve in there…
